Description

Remarks :
Southerly was originally commissioned for a flag officer of the New York Yacht Club where a half model now hangs. Classic lines with ketch rig and lifting keel this is a modern classic. Now a comfortable and fast cruising yacht that has been maintained and upgraded. Her ketch rig allows for flexible sail plan and low center of gravity providing stability. Southerly's racing success was recorded by America Cup sailor Gary Jobson who sailed her regularly who commented on her balanced lines. A fine example of yachting history and heritage. Many upgrades, engine 2017, electronics & sails 2021, standing rig 2023. Major bright work maintenance in 2024. This classic cruising yacht with lifting keel allows for close shore anchoring on inlets and beaches denied to many other yachts and indeed many smaller vessels and at the same time a capable trans-ocean fast passage yacht. Viewing in Antigua by arrangement.
Accommodation :
"Southerly" has eight berths in three cabins. Two guests may be accommodated in the main saloon. The master cabin is aft with both a double and single berth with heads adjacent. The forward head serves the forward cabin. The forepeak contains the chain locker (250' of 7/16" galvanized chain and a line storage locker. Aft of the forepeak is a large double cabin. A filler board and cushions can be inserted to provide a very spacious double berth. Generous bookshelves running fore and aft line the side of the cabin above the berth. Lockers and drawers are found on each side of the cabin at the head of the berth. Additional storage is provided by large drawers underneath the ends of the berth. Deep lockers line the hull and fill the space underneath the center of the berth. A built-in ladder provides access to the large foredeck hatch.
A passageway leads aft from the forward cabin to the main saloon. The guest head is to starboard. The head has a stainless basin with hot and cold pressure water, foot water, extractor fan, adjustable shower head, sump pump, vanity storage and large linen/utility locker outboard. The Jabsco toilet and timber base and formica recently renewed. A deck prism provides natural light which are supplemented by fluorescent lighting. A 15 gallon waste holding tank has vents and deck pumpout. Directly across from the head and two large storage lockers. Deep shelves line the hull in both lockers and there is ample room inboard to hang clothing and foul weather gear & theders.

MAIN SALOON comprising of a L-shaped settee with lockers and book shelves behind to starboard. An ingeniously designed coffee table can be raised to full dining height. There are two extra leaves for the table, one that folds out, and one that is stowed in a locker when not in use. Fully expanded the dining area can comfortably seat eight. To port in the main saloon is a very comfortable pilot berth. Below the pilot berth is a long settee that pulls out to create a full width berth. Next aft to starboard is a hanging locker and the navigation station. Electronics include SEA VHF and SSB radios, Raymarine chart plotter, B&G Hydra 2000 sailing and depth monitors with interface cables and tray receptacle for a PC. A Capac corrosion monitor and engine hour meter are also located at the nav station. Immediately aft and easily accessed and monitored from the nav station are the main electrical panels and various switches and gauges. A Hart Tank Tender monitors all fuel and water tanks.

GALLEY
The galley is located on the port side of the main saloon at the base of the companionway. It is located at the aft end of the pilot berth. The galley runs athwartships and it has a very good work top and excellent storage. There are two separate refrigeration units both of which have had a recent overhaul; one is for regular refrigeration and the other box is a separate freezer. Both of these are located on the aft bulkhead and are very well insulated. The tops of both these compartments are hinged and are approximately four and a half inches thick. Large thermometer displays indicate temperature of each compartment. The gimbaled stove is located outboard to port. The Corian counter which runs athwartship separating the galley from the main cabin has a single large stainless steel sink with storage underneath. The galley has  refrigeration with individual controls in both refrigerator and the freezer. The Force 10 stove a three burner stainless unit with oven. Hot water is provided via a twelve gallon Allcraft stainless steel hot water tank which is heated via 110 volts and by heat exchanger from the engine. In addition to the pressure hot and cold water system there are 2 manual foot pumps for both fresh and salt water.

To Starboard of the galley and main companionway is a passageway leading to the aft owners cabin. On the port side of the passageway is the engine room. Three insulated removable sliding doors close off the engine room. Behind the engine, running along the port side, is a very large locker and sail bin. It is accessible both from the engine room and the cockpit. On the starboard side of the passageway is an attractive sea berth with bookshelves and a storage locker. The sea berth doubles as a workbench with ample storage for tools and spares underneath. The "ceiling" of the passageway is actually a cockpit seat which can be lifted and secured, providing fresh air and light. Sound insulated doors at each end of the passageway allow the engine room and captain's cabin to be closed off from the living quarters of the yacht.

OWNERS CABIN
The owners cabin aft contains a large hanging locker to starboard, a bureau and mirror on the centerline and a private head to port. The head has a stainless basin with hot and cold pressure water, fresh water foot pump water, extractor fan, adjustable shower head, sump pump, vanity storage and a large linen/utility locker outboard. This cabin contains a single berth to starboard and a double berth to port. Storage areas are located behind and below both berths. A companionway at the aft end of the cabin provides access to the aft deck via a sliding hatch which has its own spray dodger. Each berth has cushions or mattresses with custom linens. blankets and day covers. Most blankets and guest towels are embroidered with yachts name. Décor is traditional in style coordinated by a well known interior designer. Accent touches include classic Rosenfield photographs in each cabin and the main saloon.
All trim and cabinetry throughout the yacht is executed in honey blond butternut with occasional mahogany or teak accent pieces. The main saloon settees and table are inlaid with mahogany and elm marquetry. Crisp white bulkheads and found throughout the yacht. All soles are varnished teak and holly. There is padded vinyl headliner throughout , and varnished butternut covering on all ceilings.

COCKPIT
"Southerly" has a truly wonderful cockpit that is ten feet long and can accommodate eight to twelve people. There is a large cockpit dining table which may be stowed below when not in use. A removeable teak grate covers the cockpit floor. Cockpit awning overhead as required.
