About Northshore Yachts
Northshore Shipyard is much more than just a boatbuilder. As is often the case in the UK, its creators have established a complete nautical complex. The facilities are designed to provide all the services needed by boaters frequenting the beautiful Chichester Harbour, which opens onto the Solent, east of Portsmouth and the Isle of Wight. In addition to the boatyard, boaters can find here all the facilities they need for the mooring, dry-docking and maintenance of their boats.
This waterfront space was created in the 1930s. At the time, rumours of war made people fearful of bombing and it was decided to build brick and wooden buildings a little away from the village of Itchenor, in order to minimise the risks. Later, the small boat builder who had set up shop there produced landing barges. Indeed, one of the yards built at that time had a sloping floor to facilitate launch.
Northshore Yachts: a multi-brand shipyard! In 1971, a company called Northshore Yachts was created to build pleasure boats. So successful was it that new premises soon had to be built. At that time, the shipyard was producing the Fisher, a fifty with a nice profile, and the Vancouver, designed to sail far away, heedless of regattas! But most well-known is the Southerly range: sailing boats with a retractable keel, such as the Southerly 420 and the beautiful Southerly 47. With more than 2000 boats produced, Northshore Yachts has been the largest yacht builder in the UK.
