About Sun Odyssey 36i
The 2006 Jeanneau Sun Odyssey 36i was designed to face head-on competition from Germany, which is becoming increasingly aggressive in this segment.
It's a brand new boat, compared to its elder, the Sun Odyssey 36, both in its lines and in the techniques used to build it.
Design-wise, the stern widens again and the beam is at three-quarters aft of this 10.59 m-long and 3.59 m-wide boat.
In terms of its manufacturing techniques, the 'i' in its name refers to the injection process used to make some of its components.
The glass fabrics are placed on the mould, which is lined on the inside with a membrane. Together, the membrane and mould form a watertight container into which the resin is injected under pressure through nozzles.
In addition to a better distribution of the resin in the fabrics that make up the laminate, the infusion produces a smooth finish that's particularly noticeable on the inside of the part.
The density of this rendering means it can be left bare, with no need for inner planking or any other form of concealment.
The progress is particularly noticeable inside this beautiful two- or three-cabin (one-bathroom) cruiser. The interior is bright, illuminated by the hull and deck portholes, with their sea view.
The catalogue also contains a GTE version (deep 2.10m draft) and an inePTE version (shallow 1.40m draft), as well as a 'Performance' version with a higher (+2m) mast, carrying more sail and with a notable third reef on the mainsail.
On deck, powerful without being sporty (that's the prerogative of the 'Performance' version), the Sun Odyssey 36i benefits from a large cockpit and, in terms of rigging, a Genoa with a strong overlap and a semi-lattened mainsail on lazy-jack/lazy-bag.
A perfect sailing boat for family cruising!
