Etap 37 S: go far, safely! Belgian shipyard Etap is known for the quality of its constructions, but also for its unsinkable boats, a definite plus in terms of passive safety. In 2006, it launched the Etap 37 S, a deep-draught model (1.95m) with 2 cabins, designed for long-distance cruising. This offshore cruiser is the result of the combined efforts of Philippe Harlé and Alain Mortain.
It features a relatively slender design and is topped by a pretty solid short roof. It has wide, glazed surfaces, including a large windscreen that lets a lot of light into the interior. This feature means you can keep an eye on the rigging while remaining sheltered. The companionway is protected by a streamlined canopy, a very welcome feature that provides ample shelter as soon as the wind picks up. The cockpit is very well designed. It's narrow enough to maintain control when heeling, and the far aft helm station has a very comfortable hump seat. Electronic dials are placed above the companionway hatch in the old-fashioned way, while all manoeuvres lead back to either side of the deck. The interior is very well designed, with a central island galley that can be used regardless of the tack you're sailing on. The saloon and accompanying table are also perfectly functional both at sea and in port. Etap 37 S is a serious boat, designed to go far comfortably and safely.
